Excel Step-by-Step Exercises

Published: 24 June 2014
Updated: 24 July 2014
Author: Martin Green

These Step-by-Step exercises are designed to help you learn about tools in Microsoft Excel by following my written instructions and working at your own pace. I use many of these same exercises in my own Excel training classes so whether you are one of my students and want to refresh your memory, or a newcomer wanting to learn something new, working through these exercises is guaranteed to increase your understanding and skills.

Each set of exercises comprise written instructions in PDF format that you can print or view on screen, together with a copy of the sample workbook used in the exercise. Where there are differences between versions of the program I have included separate instructions and sample workbooks for each version.

The sample Excel workbooks are in ZIP folders for security and speed of downloading. To download the files, right-click on the appropriate link and choose Save target as... You should extract each file from the ZIP folder before starting the exercise. To do this right-click on the downloaded folder and choose Extract All...

More sets of exercises will be added as I have time to write them so watch this space!
